How do we find the words to emphasize just how much we loved and enjoyed this novel? ‘The Disappearances’ had us captivated within it’s spell from the very first page!

Short Summary: 

The novel focuses on the leading character, Aila Quinn after her mother’s recent death and her father’s deployment in World War two. Following these recent events, Aila and her brother, Miles are sent to live with there mothers close childhood friend, in a quite unusual town named Sterling. Within their first couple of days upon arriving in the town, they soon realize that not everything is as peaceful and normal as the town folk would like it to seem. There is a dark secret blowing throughout the breeze, one that unwittingly visits every 7 years. They call it ‘The Disappearances’…

By now, you may have guessed that not only is this debuting YA novel a mystery but, it also has a historical concept within it’s pages.

It’s very difficult to properly explain the powerful magic behind this mystery without including a wide range of spoilers however, we will say that the suspense had us on the edge of our seats! We were left in disbelief and awe by this inspiring and beautiful novel!

The mystery itself was just so intriguing! It kept us up very late at night thinking over the words we read whilst trying to solve the mystery ourselves. We absolutely loved the clues that Aila was left to follow! We will give you a clue, they may include literacy clues for example, Shakespeare.

Hence our immediate love for this novel!

We also really loved the historical feel this novel gave us as it was set in the 1940s. The plot just worked extremely well with this time period. The author’s beautiful writing style definitively brought the characters and plot to life!

The way the characters were described was brilliant! We were very suspicious of all the characters and we began trying to crack the mystery ourselves! The author really did make this novel just so extraordinary and a really engaging. Not to mention, she even included a cute and strong romance!

This novel was just beautiful, heartbreaking and irresistible! This novel has absolutely encouraged us to branch out and pick up more mysteries! We definitely recommend this read and we are warning you, remember the name ‘Emily Bain Murphy’ as she is a rising author who will just leave you in awe, page after page!
