We are capable of big lives. A big history. Why settle? Why choose the practical thing, the mundane thing? We are born to dream and make the things we dream about” ~Nicola Yoon ~’The Sun Is Also a Star

If you know us well, then you’ll know just how much we adore Nicola Yoon after reading her extraordinary debuting novel ‘Everything Everything’. We rated Everything Everything 4.5/5 Stars! You can find our review here 😊.

We were so ecstatic when we realized Yoon had written another book. We just had to add this novel with it’s gorgeous cover to our bookshelves!

We absolutely love Nicola Yoon and her amazing and enjoyable writing style! Her books are so enjoyable and entertaining to read. She always adds something special and unique to her books creating her own unique trademark.

Whilst reading ‘The Sun Is Also a Star’, we realized that the author had incorporated alternating chapters, with in between chapters portraying different characters’ perspectives throughout the plot. This is yet another unique feature that adds to the story. Yoon included a lot of accurate information with the intended purpose of giving the reader more insight about the cultures mentioned throughout the novel. These cultures include Korean and African American. We found this information to be insightful and entertaining. This helped us to understand the characters more.

‘The Sun Is Also a Star’ is such an incredible and important book! It has definitely helped us with our goal to read more diverse related books. Yoon has really portrayed real life issues that people are constantly struggling with like race, gender, stereotypes and not feeling like you fit in. We definitely gained a greater understanding about deportation and stereotyping!

We really adored how the main character’s thoughts always came back to fate, destiny and true love. Natasha and Daniel’s day was just so hectic! Natasha and Daniel first met as strangers in New York City and went on adventures all throughout the period of a day. We found that this was so unique and exciting! Throughout the period of the day, Natasha tries to find the solution to being deported back to Jamaica that night while Daniel is hesitant to going to an interview as he doesn’t want to be a doctor. It’s amazingly crazy how much Nicola Yoon can fit into such a small book!

The characters were definitely our favourite part of the story! Natasha is such a focused, headstrong teenage girl who likes to predict ahead and plan out her future. Whereas, Daniel is the complete opposite. He’s dreamy, poetic, quiet and lost. We loved how the characters worked around their differences. This was without a doubt one of the best romances that we have ever read!

We highly recommend this gorgeous, creative and heart-wrenching read!

Book Rating: 4/5 Stars
